京都インターナショナルスクールにて日本初開催のBeyond COP 21 Symposiumに参加しました！
先日、元待賢小学校の跡地にキャンパスを構える京都インターナショナルスクールにて、日本で初めてBeyond COP 21 Symposiumが開催されました。
The other day, the first Beyond COP 21 Symposium in Japan was held at
Kyoto International School, whose campus was located on the former site of
Taiken Elementary School.
Beyond COP 21 Symposiumとは、気候変動とSDGｓをテーマに、生徒が主体となり学び、考え、行動する国際的な教育シンポジウムです。2015年にフランスパリで開催されたCOP21以降の国際的な気候アクションを背景に、世界各国の学校で開催されています。
The Beyond COP 21 Symposium is an international educational event where
students learn about climate change and the SDGs, think critically about
global issues, and take action for the future. Inspired by the international
climate actions that followed COP21 in Paris in 2015, the symposium has
been held at schools around the world.
このシンポジウムのプログラムの一部として、エコセンは京都市と連携し、5年生～11年生に向けて出前授業で環境学習を行いました。
As part of this symposium, Miyako Ecology Center, in cooperation
with Kyoto City, provided special Environmental Learning workshops for
students from Grade 5 to Grade 11.

初めに、京都市から2050年カーボンニュートラル実現に向けた取組事例の紹介を行った後、エコセンの元館長、ハイムーンこと高月先生による「ハイムーンマンガ」を使い、学習を進めました。
First, Kyoto City staff introduced Kyoto City’s Global Warming
Countermeasures aimed at achieving decarbonization by 2050. After that,
students learned through the “High Moon Manga” created by Dr. Takatsuki,
former director of Miyako Ecology Center, also known as “High Moon.”
今回は、COP21、意識と行動、海ごみ、リサイクル、衣服や家具のリペアなどをテーマにした６つのハイムーンマンガを準備しました。
For this workshop, I prepared six different High Moon Manga on themes
such as COP21, Awareness and Action, Plastic Pollution in the ocean,
Recycling, Repairing clothes or furniture, and other environmental topics.

6 High Moon Manga
最初にマンガ鑑賞の時間を取り、この中から、自分が一番大切だと感じたマンガを1つ選んでもらいました。生徒の皆さんは、真剣にそれぞれのマンガを読み解いていました。
Students first spent time interpreting the manga carefully and then selected
the one they felt was the most important.

「この人はごみ分別をしてないね。」
“This person isn’t separating the garbage properly.”
「頭では分別しようと考えてるけど行動できてないんだね。」
“She knows she should recycle things but has not changed her behavior yet.”
学年により少しずつ興味関心が異なり、5年生～6年生では「海ごみ」のマンガが、7年生～11年生では「COP21」「意識と行動」「衣服や家具のリペア」をテーマにしたマンガが多く選ばれました。また、同じマンガでも多様な見方、考え方があり、生徒同士の意見交換が盛り上がりました。
Students of different grades showed different interests. Grade 5 and 6
students were especially interested in the manga about Plastic Pollution
in the ocean, while Grade 7 to 11 students chose themes such as COP21,
Awareness and Action and Repairing clothes or furniture.
ワークの最後は、今の環境や将来の環境を良くするためにできることや、これからやってみたいエコアクションを考えました。
At the end of the workshop, students thought about what they can do to
help protect the environment and shared eco-actions they would like to
practice.
「買い物に行くときはエコバッグを利用する」「すぐにごみになるプラスチックの利用をできる限り控える」「水道の蛇口はこまめに閉める」「必要のない電気は消す」「シャワーの時間を短くする」「食べ残しはしない」「ごみ拾いボランティアに参加する」「カーボンフットプリントを減らす」など、沢山の素敵なエコアクションが発表されました。
Some of the wonderful ideas included:
“Use reusable shopping bags,”
“Avoid one time use plastics as much as possible,”
“Turn off the tap carefully,”
“Turn off the lights when I don’t need them,”
“Take shorter showers,”
“Try not to waste food,”
“Join community clean-up activities,”
“Reduce my carbon footprint.”
今回は短い時間でしたが、約100名の生徒の皆さんとハイムーンマンガを切り口に学習を行いました。今日からでもできるエコアクションはあります。ぜひ、小さなことから行動に移してくださいね！
Although the workshop time was short, around 100 students participated
in learning workshop through the High Moon Manga. Many eco-friendly actions
can be started today, even with small steps!
